Why You Need Newspaper Bags
The elements have weathered this earth for billions of years. They have carved rock and canyons, slag chapels in the desert, and scrapes along beach-ends. But when the rain goes pitter-patter or dudududurudududrurud it still can’t get the newspaper wet when it’s sitting in newspaper bags. That plastic bag is safety for the little black ink print, so that when I walk down my driveway in the early morning rain, there will be no smears or smudged running. I’ll be able to read the headline clear as diamond, and although the paper may be a little cool from being outside for so long, it will be dry as a swaddled baby.
Newspaper bags are a fine invention, alleviating the need for a porch or front deck. They protect from the elements in a way that had never been thought of until the invention of plastic bags little more than a hundred years ago. Today you can fish a newspaper in its bag from three feet of snow and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee while you read the op-ed pages, which are essentially what the entire newspaper is, a serious of opinions on world events, with facts sprinkled in, but that’s the subject for a different blog post.
