The Benefits of Newspaper Bags
When I was a kid on my paper route, we didn’t use newspaper bags. I slung my route bags over my shoulder and off I went, a-slingin’ those newspapers onto porches, rain or shine.
A lot’s changed since then. Today when I go out to my driveway the newspaper lies there in a yellow or blue plastic bag. I can take it out and it’s not damp or rained on or damaged in any way. Thanks to plastic packaging, I’m sure the newspaper boys across the country no longer have to worry about their aim or the direction they throw the newspaper, as long as it’s in those newspaper bags they can breathe easy.
Technology, such as plastic packaging, we often take for granted. The little ways it makes our lives more convenient – whether it be keeping our newspapers dry, or allowing us to tell our friends we’re going to be a little late for the movie – are always improving.
I wish I had had newspaper bags when I was a boy. They would have saved me a lot of stress. As it is I can watch the benefits of plastic technology make all of our lives a little easier.
