Plastic Bags’ Place
I’ve often discussed how in the city we see pieces of garbage and mistake them for animals. There are plenty of floating plastic bags nested in trees, scurrying across the street, and soaring in the wind. I find it a beautiful blend of mankind’s interaction with nature. Something about this concrete habitat gives life to pieces of trash artistically. Sure it’s litter, but it adds another dimension of life to the city. It’s not really out of place, doesn’t arouse the same feelings of disgust as seeing plastic bags floating down a rural highway – that is no place for litter. But in a city with millions of vibrating organisms, it’s only natural the waste of these organisms should take on a frequency of its own.
The different species of bags are many – there are newspaper bags, tape bags, wicketed bags, self seal bags, reclosable bags, and varieties of printed plastic bags. The variation in printed plastic bags is a lot like the variation in humans – we’re all the same species, but we’re all different. We make use of the city in different ways, find our respective function according to our own nature. The way the external works on us is much like the way it works on these plastic bags – except we don’t live forever.
