Poly Mailers, Newspaper Bags, Header Bags, Plastic Bags and more!
Happy Valentine’s Day! Today we’re going to teach you how to make roses out of plastic bags — neat, huh?
Okay, first off, gather your supplies. You’ll need plastic bags, of course, in the prettiest colors you can find; green string, the stiffer the better; scissors; a sewing needle; and something pointy, like a knitting needle.
Now, start making the petals. Grab a bag and cut off the handles and bottom seam; you’ll essentially have a plastic tube. Cut the tub into one solid sheet, then cut the sheet into strips about 1 1/2″ thick. Fold over about 1″ from one edge, then keep folding over until you have a flat roll. Now, cut the roll so that it’s shaped like a heart sitting and overlapping on a flat plane. Unfold the roll, then start rolling it onto the knitting needle (or whatever instrument you’re using) until it’s wrapped entirely around. Remove the knitting needle, then place the sewing needle in the base of the petals.
Cut three pieces of the green string — each should be roughly twice the length you want the stem to be. Remove the sewing needle, then run the knitting needle through the hole to make it larger. Now, thread the string through the hole and braid the three pieces tightly, tying them at the end so they won’t fray.
Finally, you can start adjusting the rose petals to look the way you want. Voilà! You have a plastic bag rose.
